They are also referred to as NdFeB magnets, or NIB, because they are composed mainly of Neodymium (Nd), Iron (Fe) and Boron (B). They are a relatively new invention and have only recently become affordable for everyday use. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAs a very general rule, the higher the grade (the number following the 'N'), the stronger the magnet. The highest grade of neodymium magnet currently available is N52.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eNeodymium magnets are a composition of mostly Neodymium, Iron and Boron. If left exposed to the elements, the iron in the magnet will rust. To protect the magnet from corrosion and to strengthen the brittle magnet material, it is usually preferable for the magnet to be coated. There are a variety of options for coatings, but nickel is the most common and usually preferred. Our nickel plated magnets are actually triple plated with layers of nickel, copper, and nickel again. This triple coating makes our magnets much more durable than the more common single nickel plated magnets.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIf you've never handled neodymium magnets before, you will be amazed at their strength. Neodymium magnets are over 10x stronger than the strongest ceramic magnets. If you are currently using ceramic magnets in your project, you could probably use a much smaller neodymium magnet and have greater holding force. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eAll magnets come in packs of 5 unless otherwise indicated!\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThey have a number of cautions and we request that you \u003cstrong\u003eplease read the warnings below BEFORE purchasing\u003c\/strong\u003e the magnets so that you are aware of any possible health or other issues you may encounter by utilising N52 magnets.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNeodymium magnets are more powerful than other kinds of magnets.  The incredibly powerful force between magnets can often be surprising to those unfamiliar with their strength.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eFingers and other body parts\u003c\/strong\u003e can be pinched between two magnets.  With larger magnets, injuries of this type can be \u003cstrong\u003esevere.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe strong magnetic fields near a neodymium magnet \u003cstrong\u003ecan affect pacemakers\u003c\/strong\u003e, ICDs and other implanted medical devices.  Many of these devices are made with a feature that deactivates it with a magnetic field.  Therefore, care must be taken to avoid inadvertently deactivating such devices.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNeodymium magnets are made of a hard, brittle material.  Despite being made of metal, and the shiny, metallic appearance of their nickel plating, they are not as durable as steel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNeodymium magnets \u003cstrong\u003ecan peel, chip, crack or shatter if\u003c\/strong\u003e allowed to slam together.  Eye protection should be worn when handling magnets, since shattering magnets can launch small pieces at great speeds.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNeodymium magnets are not easily drilled or machined.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eThe strong magnetic fields near neodymium magnets \u003cstrong\u003ecan damage magnetic media\u003c\/strong\u003e such as floppy disks, credit cards, magnetic I.D. cards, cassette tapes, video tapes or other such devices. They can also damage televisions, VCRs, computer monitors and CRT displays. Avoid placing neodymium magnets near electronic appliances.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003cspan\u003eNeodymium magnets \u003cstrong\u003ecan rust or corrode in the presence of moisture\u003c\/strong\u003e.  While the three layer, nickel-copper-nickel plating on most of our magnets provides enough protection for many applications, they are not waterproof.  If used underwater, outdoors or in a moist environment, they can corrode and lose magnetic strength.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAvoid drilling or machining neodymium are not toys. \u003cstrong\u003e Children should not be allowed to handle neodymium magnets\u003c\/strong\u003e.  Small magnets can pose a choking hazard.  If multiple magnets are swallowed, they can attach to one another through intestine walls.  This can cause a severe health risk, requiring immediate, emergency surgery if correctly magnets are a member of the Rare Earth magnet family and are the most powerful permanent magnets in the world. They are also referred to as NdFeB magnets, or NIB, because they are composed mainly of Neodymium (Nd), Iron (Fe) and Boron (B). They are a relatively new invention and have only recently become affordable for everyday use. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAs a very general rule, the higher the grade (the number following the 'N'), the stronger the magnet. The highest grade of neodymium magnet currently available is N52.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eNeodymium magnets are a composition of mostly Neodymium, Iron and Boron. If left exposed to the elements, the iron in the magnet will rust. To protect the magnet from corrosion and to strengthen the brittle magnet material, it is usually preferable for the magnet to be coated. There are a variety of options for coatings, but nickel is the most common and usually preferred. Our nickel plated magnets are actually triple plated with layers of nickel, copper, and nickel again. Neodymium magnets are over 10x stronger than the strongest ceramic magnets. They can also damage televisions, VCRs, computer monitors and CRT displays.
